Download Hexchat: Debian-based distros like Tails can use:$ sudo apt-get update -y && sudo apt-get install -y hexchatNote that the actual config files are stored in ~/.config/hexchat so you can back them up afteryou set HexChat up and then restore on your next Tails session by just copying them back fromyour ~/Persistence/ directory.It's free IRC client that is under active development. It has a portable installmode, so you can put it easily on an encrypted partition.To connect to IRC via Tor, edit Preferences > Network setup > Proxy Server:Hostname: 127.0.0.1Port: 9050 (default port for TorBrowser, verify in TorButton > Preferences > Proxy Settings)Type: SOCKS 5Use proxy for: All ConnectionsIn HexChat: Network List pane Enter your user information.Nick name: <your nick>Second choice: -leave blank-Third choice: -leave blank-Four choice: -leave blank-User name: <your nick>Then click the Add button.The New Network option appears and get highlighted, enter:OnionNet IRCand hit Enter.Then click the Edit... button.At the top, edit the:newserver/6667entry and put:onionirczesfffux.onion/6667in then hit Enter.If you enter the password at the bottom, the first time you enter your nick getsregistered with that password. It might take a while.------Security:For security reasons, all CTCP and DCC commands are disabled on OnionNETServers, however you are advised to disable those commands in your HexChat/xChatclient by going to Settings > CTCP Replies and deleting all the entries listed there.Also feel free to disable those commands in your hexchat client once you starthexchat up with following command:/ignore * CTCP DCCThe settings for XChat are identical or very similar (depending on xChat version).When connected to one of the OnionNET IRC servers, use /join <#channelname> tojoin an actual channel and /list to list all the channels or /motd to displayserver welcome message+info.Example:/ignore * CTCP DCC/motd/list/join #security

Download latest weechat release from: Tails users can happily install weechat from the Debian repositories:$ sudo apt-get update -y && sudo apt-get install -y weechatYou need to define a proxy and a server, also deactivate xfer and ctcp for privacy.To do that: Copy the following configuration lines into a text file. Edit YourNick to your desired login information. Check your tor proxy address and port if you do not use TorBrowsers Tor. Paste the edited lines into weechat.
